Charlton Ath v Oldham Ath Preview

The last game before Christmas often attracts a low attendance but another example of the club’s imaginative idea on pricing for certain games should ensure a good turn out.

Chris Powell will be anxious to return to winning ways after last week’s disappointing draw at Walsall. With Huddersfield visiting Sheffield Wednesday, the Addicks will be looking to stretch their lead over one or both of their main rivals.

Bradley Wright-Phillips has been off the boil since netting the winner at Brentford but Yann Kermorgant has stepped up to the mark. Though most attention is naturally focused on Wright-Phillips, it should not be overlooked that Kermorgant has contributed six goals in his twelve appearances (nine starts plus three as a sub).

Those who can remember the great Australian fast bowling duo of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson may recall the slogan of their fans:

“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if Lillee doesn’t get you, Thommo must.”

That would be a fitting way to describe Charlton’s front two at the moment.

Powell is likely to retain the same starting line-up as last week, with Johnnie Jackson not yet fit to return.

Oldham currently sit 16th in the League One table and lost 2-0 last week when Sheffield Wednesday visited Boundary Park.

Charlton could start with this team:

Hamer; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Green, Russell, Hollands, Ephraim; Kermorgant, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Cort, Hughes, Wagstaff, Hayes.

Lee Collins of Surrey will be the man in charge.

The Addicks will be confident of taking three points to give their supporters an early Christmas present.
